Villain is one of the most anticipated big budget Malayalam Thriller movie directed by B. Unnikrishnan and produced by Rockline Venkatesh, who previously produced Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Lingaa. It stars Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tamil Actor Vishal, Hansika Motwani, Telugu Actress Raashi Khanna in prominent roles. This movie is Asia's first movie to be shot completely in 8K Resolution in Red's Weapon Helium 8K S35 Camera.

Plot:
ADGP Mathew Manjooran, took a case on the final day of his police career that changes his life upside down.

Performance:
* Mohanlal as Mathew Manjooran fits the role perfectly. He enacted the role naturally and he was the centre attraction of the movie that made the viewers sticked to the screen to watch. You can witness Mohanlal as an actor after Oppam than a big star. Mathew is one of his roles in his career, that's sure. There's a scene where he cries with a small smile, rare actors could only possible to emote that emotion.

* Tamil Actor Vishal as Sakthivel Palanisamy whose debut performance was decent enough but his character was predictable. No one could fit to his role. He did a decent performance.

* Manju Warrier as Neelima, wife of Mathew Manjooran had limited screen space but essayed her role well especially the scenes when she portrayed her pain was good.

* Hansika Motwani as Shreya did her part average and felt her role bit unnecessary.

* Other actors like Telugu actors Raashi Khanna and Srikanth, then Siddique, Chemban Vinod, Renji Panicker did their role apt for the movie.

Technical Aspects:
* Written and Direction was done by Unnikrishnan B. The direction part was fine but the negative was the script of the film. The direction was fine and one of his personal best after Grandmaster. The narrative pace was linear and straightforward which wasn't a good option for thriller movies and there was lagging portions which could have been avoided. Even though the movie was an emotional thriller, there were a few lagging scenes which weren't sufficient.  The main fault was the main plot was showcased in sub-plot and the sub-plot stuff showcased as main plot which will not entertain most people.

* DoP by Manoj Paramahamsa and N. K. Ekambaram did a good job. They shot the movie without any static shots. Some frames felt like the effect of still photography but even though that doesn't effect negatively for a viewer. The song "Kandittum" was shot good and was one of the best frames.

* Edits by Shameer Muhammed could have been done better. The movie had  some lagging portions that could have been trimmed down for a better watching experience.

* Music by 4 Musics was an average album. The first song "Kandittum" sung by K. J. Yesudas was the best song and "Angakale" could have been avoided. Special applause for the background music by Sushin Shyam who did a tremendous job throughout the movie. He didn't overused scorings and gave prominence to silence too.

* Stunts were done by Ravi Verma, Thriller Manju, Ram-Laxman and Mafia Sasi. There were three action blocks on this movie. The execution of second action block was the best and the climax one was above average.

* Other technical departments like Production Design, Visual effects (special mention for the opening credits), Sound designing and editing did their job well.

Final Verdict: Watch Villain for Mohanlal's natural performance and with some patience also. Don't expect another Grandmaster.
