Theeran Adhigaram Ondru Movie Review

Theeran Adhigaram Ondru (translation - Theeran: Chapter One) is a Tamil cop movie written and directed by H. Vinoth (Tamil movie Sathuranga Vettai fame) and it starred Karthi in the title role. Rakul Preet Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Bose Venkat acted in supporting roles. DoP is done by Sathyan Sooryan (Tamil movie Maya DoP fame) and the music is done by Ghibran. The movie is actually based on one of  the successful cases of Tamilnadu Police, that is, "Operation Bawaria". 

Plot:

From 1995 to 2005, there were many stand-alone clueless murders and burglaries happening in the houses which were situated near highways in Tamilnadu and there were no traces of the killers except their fingerprints. Theeran, a new DSP recruited officer took charge of this case and formed a team to investigate this highway dacoitary case. 

Performance: 

* Karthi as the lead hero, DSP Theeran Thirumaran portrayed one of the best performance of his career. He excelled in portraying every emotion whether romance, sentiments, struggle, action sequences too. He dwelled into the character and portayed well.

* Rakul Preet Singh as Priya had a brief role as the wife of Theeran did a fine performance.

* Abhimanyu Singh as Oma portrayed tremendous performance as the main antagonist. He made the viewers literally scared in an important scene of the movie on the pre-interval.

* Bose Venkat as Sathya, Theeran's assistant officer also did her part well. He excelled in emotion scenes as well. 

* Other actors portrayed their roles apt for the movie.

Technical Aspects: 

* Written and Directed by H. Vinoth did an excellent job in writing as well as in direction too. After his debut movie Sathuranga Vettai which was based on crooked ways to fool people and gain money, Vinoth is back with another serious movie, that too, a cop story. Comparing with his debut film, Vinoth has successfully turned as a good director without any amateurish direction. He has done strong research works and directed the movie sticking more to realism but too, there were cinematic view as well. The romance and comic scenes could be avoided but doesn't offer any boredom to viewers. From the twenty minutes of pre-interval scene onwards, the level of movie changes into another dimension and gets more intense and raw. There were hardly 2-3 scenes which were logicless but they were overshadowed with the screenplay and technical team as well. 

* DoP by Sathyan Sooryan captured the shots and frames well. He sticked to the director's business and there were many scenes which we can evidently witness the signature of a cinematographer especially in action sequences too. 

* Editing by T. Shivanandeeshwaran did good job, especially the animation scenes of history backdrop of each matter did synced well with the mood of the movie and the edits and color tone sticked well to the movie especially on the second half of the movie. 

* Music by Ghibran were average but the background score gave the goosebumps to make the movie more engaging and to make a kind of edge-of-the-seat thriller. 

* Stunts by Dhilip Subbarayan were good especially the bus sequence and two climax stunts were one of the highlights of this movie. 

* Other technical departments like Sound designing, VFX, Production Designing did their best for the perfection of the film. 

Final Verdict: Theeran Adhigaram Ondru is one of the best Tamil movies of this year after Vikram Vedha. Watch for a edge-of-the-seat cop thriller.
