Masterpiece is a 2017 Malayalam Action Thriller Movie directed by Ajai Vasudev and starred Mega Star Mammootty as the lead protagonist. It also starred Unni Mukundan, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Poonam Bajwa, Kalabhavan Shajohn and Gokul Suresh in other prominent roles.

Plot:

A murder happened in a government college and the prime suspect of the murder commits suicide. When the management of the college found difficult to handle this tiresome situation, new college professor Edward Livingston arrives and then how he gets involved with the case and resolves it follows the crux of the story.

Performance:

* Mammootty as Prof. Edward Livingston was the show stealer of this film. His spontaneous dialogues and mass scenes were one of the major highlight. If you wanna witness the mass side of Mammootty, better watch this film. He outshined in this film. It's a pure out-and-out Mammootty show.

* Unni Mukundan as ACP John Thekkan did a good performance although it was a way kind of extended cameo. He acted the emotions that suited for his role and did some serious acting as well.

* Varalakshmi Sarathkumar as Bhavani Durga, Commissioner of Police did her role well, same caliber as of her debut Malayalam film, Kasaba but didn't excelled more than Kamala (her character in Kasaba).

* Other actors did their performance apt for the movie.

Technical Aspects:

* Directed by Ajai Vasudev has improved his directorial abilities comparing with his debut film. His direction had a mature way but it loses sometimes especially the climax scenes and stunt scenes, those could have been worked better. He executed the mass scenes with perfection and succeeded in satisfying the audience.

* Script by Udaykrishna after the industry hit Pulimurugan did an average job in scripting. When he succeeded in structuring an above average plot, he failed in maintaining that balance throughout the pace of screenplay as well. Dialogues were good and enough suited to the film. Unnecessary characters and enough spaces for them could have been avoided.

* DoP by Vinod Illampally could have been done a good job. His work in this movie comparing to his previous works like Ohm Shanthi Oshana, Grandmaster, it was strictly average. There wasn't a particular scene that depicted a sign of a cinematographer.

* Edited by John Kutty did a fare job. His cuts and transition kept the movie into a pure mass entertainer without any boredom.

* Music by Deepak Dev wasn't had any refreshing music to offer in this film. Every song had importance in the movie but hardly left one in memory. The background music of the hero was apt for the heroic scenes of the movie.

* Other departments didn't sound high enough. Their work was medium and did some justice to the film. That's it.

Final Verdict: Masterpiece is a holiday outing which is strictly for Mammootty fans and fans of mass entertainers.
