10 BEST BOLLYWOOD MOVIES 2018

23/12/2018

Disclaimer: This list is created as I felt these 10 movies are worth watching and could be recommended as well. Hope you would like those movies and if you have any comments or add any other movies, do post it in the comment box. The ranking will be according to the Indian release dates (according to Wikipedia) of these films.

#1. PadMan
Release Date: 09th February
Director: R Balki

Why?
This movie was under the commercial category but the movie showcased a message which wad about the usage of sanitary pads for women, and why male dominant society does not give importance to the women's safety and hygiene. The movie technically was based on the life of Arunchalam Murugannatham, who hails from Tamilnadu and got patent for making low-cost sanitary pads. This wasn't a regular Bollywood nonsense masala movie, that's why it comes under my favorites.

#2. October
Release Date: 13th April
Director: Shoojit Sircar

Why?
This movie had the best performances from the casts, from Varun Dhawan (his career best) and the newbies Banita Sandhu and Gitanjali Rao. The movie had an emotional connect with the audience and worked well. Technically too, it was one of the best directorials from Shoojit Sircar.

#3. Beyond The Clouds
Release Date: 20th April
Director: Majid Majdi

Why?
Iranian director, Majid Majdi's Bollywood debut movie was the first reason. The performance of the debutant Ishaan Khatter was the major highlight as he uplift the movie and took into another level of emotion of good hope and happiness. The performances of other cast was commendable especially the portrayal of Malavika Mohanan as Ishaan's sister. A R Rahman's background score helped this movie to get the emotional experience.

#4. Raazi
Release Date: 11th May
Director: Meghna Gulzar

Why?
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, who made the brilliant movie Talwar, this time made another life story of a female spy which was rare in Indian Cinema. The movie was really intriguing and engaging, and the performance of Alia Bhatt was appreciatable along with Vicky Kaushal and Jaideep Ahlawat.

#5. Sanju
Release Date: 29th June
Director: Rajkumar Hirani

Why?
The movie based on the Bollywood actor, Sanjay Dutt, who's still alive, was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, after a break of almost four years. Although the movie seemed so biased and tried to boost the image of Sanjay Dutt as an 'achcha aadmi' and 'I'm not the guy that you think' kinda, it was still a good theatre experience because of three portrayals of the actors: Ranbir Kapoor as Sanju, Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt, his father and Vicky Kaushal as Kamli.

#6. Stree
Release Date: 31st August
Director: Amar Kaushik

Why?
This movie is not the cliché horror comedy movie and one of the best entertainers from Bollywood this year. There are many moments of laughter, horror and an important message as well. Starred Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles was directed by debutant Amar Kaushik.

#7. Manto
Release Date: 21st September
Director: Nandita Das

Why?
The directorial of Nandita Das and powerful portrayal of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the title role had the magic on-screen. The movie focused on the freedom of the writer during pre-Independence and their struggle to write anything with freedom. It had a strong content to present. It could be the treatment of the movie kinda 'art cinema' may possibly the reason of being flop in box-office.

#8. Andhadhun
Release Date: 05th October
Director: Sriram Raghavan

Why?
Sriram Raghavan, the director who usually makes hardcore thrillers like Ek Hasina Thi, Johnny Gaddar and Badlapur gave a surprise package of edge-of-the-seat kinda thriller black comedy movie. That's Andhadhun. This was the career best roles of Ayushmann Khurrana as Akash, a blind pianist who witnessed that he should not. Tabu, as Simi was another biggest factor in the movie. Even though she's aged more than forty-five, still amazes with her acting skills like hell. Apart from this, this movie gives you good visual experiences and good album and background score from Amit Trivedi as well. One must watch this movie compulsorily. Most recommended one.

#9. Tumbbad
Release Date: 12th October
Director: Rahi Anil Barve

Why?
Another most recommended movie after Andhadhun. Damn movie it is. The story of Hastar and Vinayak will definitely give you an edge-of-the-seat unforgettable visual experience for those who are really interested for 'Dadi ki Kahaani' and 'Myths and Tales'. The movie is solid in the case of technical departments as well as the acting as well. The writing (especially dialogues) and background score are really impressive that make you feel into the universe of Tumbbad. The most wow factor was most of the technicians are newcomers, you will understand that when you watch the movie.

#10. Badhaai Ho
Release Date: 18th October
Director: Amit Sharma

Why?
The subject is not a new one for the Malayalam-speaking people as there's a movie based on the same concept called Pavithram (1994) directed by TK Rajeev Kumar, but the same concept has been shown in light comical atmosphere where you can really burst into laughter. It's a recommended movie to watch with family where you can forget everything, sit and enjoy watching. Ayushmann Khurrana starrer movie was a blockbuster and the performance of every cast of this movie was damn awesome especially Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta and the 'Dadi'.

Honorable Mentions.
