Why?
Usually a 'jailbreak' movie needs a big budget in order to make it in big canvas, as it is complicated to make such kinda movies. This movie stands out from all these criterias. Made on a small budget but in a big canvas, can be easily called one of the best entertainers and jail-break movies in Malayalam Cinema Industry. The performances and the technical works was so good.

Kammara Sambhavam
Release Date: 14th April
Director: Rathish Ambat
Why?
This movie is one of the best visual experiences in theatres because even though it was just a movie, it gave a feeling of watching two different movies - one, the real story of Kammaran, his history and the satire version of Kammaran's story and vice versa. Such a good movie headed by the debutant director Rathish Ambat is commendable because he headed the movie perfectly like an experienced director. Dileep's portrayal as Kammaran Nambiar in different avatars was simply brilliant and felt that he's still under-utilised in Malayalam Cinema, he has that potentiality. Tamil Actor Siddharth also did his job well. And of course, Murali Gopy's writing was so fabulous.

Ee. Maa. Yau
Release Date: 04th May
Director: Lijo Jose Pellissery
Why?
The concept of death and aftermath was presented in a unique way, than other movies related to this subject, that's what Ee Maa Yau stands out. The director Lijo Jose Pellissery proves that he's still versatile and have the guts to experiment more with the movies and the writing of P F Matthew's was so good. The right blend of script and direction excelled in this movie and the performance of Chemban Vinod was appreciatable.

Njan Marykutty
Release Date: 15th June

Why?
A feel-good movie based on the life of a transgender called Mathukutty alias Marykutty. The movie showed the true colours how our society treats a transgender person and mocking them, how we make their lives miserable and how they can be a successful one like a common person. The transformation of Jayasurya as Marykutty was appreciable and his performance was the asset of this movie.

Koode
Release Date: 14th July
Director: Anjali Menon
Why?
It's been four years, Anjali Menon did a movie post Bangalore Days (2014), which still had a cult following among urban  Malayalis especially from places like Bangalore and Mumbai. This movie also followed the similar emotional pattern, talks about the bond of the siblings, Joshua and Jenny, and their lives. This film was inspired by 2014 Marathi film, Happy Journey. One of the best and subtle performance from Prithviraj in this year, and the comeback of Nazriya Nazim post her wedding, worked out well.

Why?
What if we watch an indie English crime drama film in Malayalam language? That's Ranam for you. Another visual experience in theatres after Kammara Sambhavam in terms of performance, technical values and making as well.

Why?
The actor-director combo of Fahadh Faasil and Amal Neerad after Iyobinte Pusthakam (2013) strikes good enough in this film. The performance of central characters were applauded especially the portrayal of Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sharafudeen.

If you wanna see how a typical Malayali is, then watch Njan Prakashan nearby your theatres.
