Why "LUCIFER"?
* One of the most anticipated movies of this year.
* The first directorial debut of actor Prithviraj, and the combination with actor Mohanlal as the lead actor.
* Murali Gopy's Script after the so-talked Kammara Sambhavam (2018).
* Big budget movie with an ensemble cast including Vivek Oberoi, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Sachin Khedekar, Kalabhavan Shajohn, John Vijay and veteran director Fazil.
* Mohanlal - Manju Warrier combo after Odiyan (2018).
Plot:
When PK Ramdas aka PKR (Sachin Khedekar), the current Chief Minister of Kerala dies, the state declares an election and IUF (Indian Union Front) party needs a candidate to contest. And the presence of a local politician and close aid of PKR, Stephen Nedumbally (Mohanlal), gives them troubles and wants to suppress him. What happens next is the crux of the story.
+ves and -ves:
+ Mohanlal
+ Lead Casts' Performance
+ DoP
+ Background Score
- Music (not so standout)
- Duration (for some people, maybe)
- Predictable
Performance:
* Mohanlal as Stephen Nedumbally was the ultimate backbone of this film. He shoulders the movie, mostly. His performance wasn't really challenging one but it surely empowers his stardom.
* Manju Warrier as Priyadarshani was good enough to portray her subtle performance. She was well-utilised and didn't had any unnecessary scenes like her previous movie, Odiyan (2018).
* Tovino Thomas as Jathin Ramdas, even though appears from the second half onwards, but he has a prominent role. He did a good job especially the scene where he addresses to the public.
* Vivek Oberoi as Bobby did a decent performance. He isn't an ordinary antagonist, but had enough space to perform the antagonism that the character demanded. His lip syncing was good enough, thanks to actor Vineeth for dubbing for him.
* Kalabhavan Shajohn as Aloshy was menacing and was sharp as another antagonist. One would wish he could get more screen space but was utilised to an extent.
* Prithviraj Sukumaran as Zayed Masood was an extended cameo appearance and hasn't anything challenging to offer but still there are mass moments for his fans as well.
* Other casts was apt for the film, even the minute ones too.
Technical Aspects:
* Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, as a debutant did a great job in directing such a huge canvas film. He didn't had any usual pressures of a debutant director. Although the duration of the movie was nearly 3 hours, he managed to make every shot and every scene interesting, as a spectator none of the scenes weren't boring and tiresome. He still has the caliber to do more movies as a director. This movie was more of, a tribute to the mass persona of Mohanlal, like director Karthik Subbaraj did Petta for Rajnikanth, as a tribute for his mass persona.
* Script by Murali Gopy was good enough but not his best like so-discussed Kammara Sambhavam and Left Right Left. As he mentioned earlier in his interviews, that this one is a straightforward mass movie with a proper storyline. Yeah, it is. His script did have space for storyline as well as mass scenes and punch dialogues for Mohanlal. The main characters in this multi-starrer film, has well written and has its own main purposes.
* DoP by Sujith Vaasudev did a fantastic job in capturing the shots of this entire movie. He has portrayed the aesthetic and rich visuals of many locations and atmospheres especially shots with rain. His detail shots were good.
* Music and Background Score was done by Deepak Dev. The remake version of evergreen song, "Varika Varika" was retained well. The album of the movie was okayish but his background score was very impressive and fantastic. Those scores gave enough punch to the goosebumps moments of the movie.
* Editing by Samjith Mohammed was crisp. None of the scenes wasn't felt like an extra. He has covered every aspects of the film within the time limit.
* Other departments like Sound Designing, VFX, DI works, did enough justice to the film.
Final Verdict: Lucifer is a fan boy's tribute to his favourite star, appealing to his mass persona with a good screenplay.
